Poly AI Review 2026: Is PolyBuzz Safe, and Why Is It Down?

"Poly AI" is two things: the 18+ character-chat app now called PolyBuzz, and a London company that builds voice agents for call centres. We read the app's terms and privacy policy, its store listings, and found out why its website says "unavailable in your region" from India.

"Poly AI" is two different things. The one most people mean is PolyBuzz, the AI character-chat app that was called Poly.AI until January 2025: free, ad-supported, rated 18+, with over 5 crore installs on Google Play and a 2.1-star rating there. The other is PolyAI Ltd, a London company whose voice agents answer phone calls for banks and hotels. They are unrelated.

If you are in India and the PolyBuzz website shows "This service is temporarily unavailable in your region", that is not an outage. The site is withheld here on purpose, while it is plainly open in the United States, where it takes about 2.5 million visits a month from Google. The Android app is still listed on Google Play in India. Below: what the app is, who runs it, what its terms and privacy policy say, what it collects, and what to do when it will not load.

What is Poly AI?

Poly AI was the name of an app that lets you chat with AI characters: anime heroes, invented companions, celebrities, anything a user has built, each with a voice and a personality written into it. On 25 January 2025 its developer announced the rebranding of "its flagship AI chat application from 'Poly.AI - Create AI Chat Bot' to 'PolyBuzz'", in a press release that also said the old website at polyai.ai would be phased out. The same release claims "over 20 million unique AI characters" on the platform.

The app is still huge. On the Indian storefront of Google Play on 23 October 2026, "PolyBuzz: Chat with AI Friends" by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC showed 5Cr+ downloads and 11.9 lakh reviews. The listing is marked "Rated for 18+", "Contains ads" and "In-app purchases", and the latest version (2.2.90) is dated 19 October 2026. Its tagline there: "Talk & engage with anime characters and start a rizz story anytime, anywhere". It is also on Apple's App Store under the same developer name.

PolyBuzz on Google Play's Indian storefront, October 23, 2026: 5 crore+ installs, an 18+ rating, ads and in-app purchases, and 2.1 stars from 11.9 lakh reviews.

That 2.1-star rating is the number to pause on. The most-shown review on the listing that day was from a user who likes the app "but with so many ads it's sometimes kind hard to enjoy, mainly cuz sometimes the ads pop out of nowhere". The free tier is paid for by advertising, and the rating says how people feel about the amount of it.

Searches tell the same story about who uses it: Ahrefs counts about 1.7 million searches a month for "poly ai" worldwide, 774,000 of them in the United States and 399,000 in Brazil, and 2.8 million a month for "polybuzz" in the United States alone. Those are people, not scripts: Ahrefs also measures about 819,000 clicks a month on the US results for "poly ai".

Is Poly AI the same as PolyBuzz, or as PolyAI?

Poly AI and PolyBuzz are the same app under two names. PolyAI, written as one word, is something else: PolyAI Ltd, founded in London in 2017 by researchers from the University of Cambridge's dialogue-systems group. It sells voice agents that handle customer phone calls for businesses.

PolyAI's homepage reads "The Frontier of Agentic Dialog", and the subheading says "PolyAI builds dialog agents that handle your most critical enterprise conversations, resolving them without escalation." The company raised $86 million in December 2025 at a $750 million valuation. Nothing on its site is for chatting with anime characters.

poly.ai on October 23, 2026: the London enterprise company that ranks for "poly ai" but has nothing to do with the chat app. The rename to PolyBuzz was partly meant to end this confusion.

The app's press release stresses the point: PolyBuzz is "developed exclusively by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, a Delaware company" and "is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with any other company, organization, or entity in any capacity." So if a search result or a review talks about enterprise voice assistants, pricing per call or a $750 million valuation, it is about the other PolyAI.

Is Poly AI safe?

It is an adults-only app with a date-of-birth gate, run by a company whose name differs between its press release and its privacy policy, that shows ads and collects device identifiers. Whether that is "safe" depends on who is asking.

For anyone under 18: it is not meant for you, by its own rules. The Terms of Use (last updated 18 May 2026) say "You must have reached 18-year-old to use PolyBuzz and/or our Services" and that the services "strictly prohibit for minors (less than 18-year-old) worldwide". Google Play rates it 18+. The check at sign-up is the date of birth you type, so a parent cannot rely on the app to enforce this. The character library and chats involve romance and roleplay, and the terms exist because the content is adult.

For adults, the questions are data and money. The privacy policy (last updated 1 June 2026, read through a policy-tracking mirror because the app's own site is blocked from India) says the app collects your email, username, "uploaded pictures or input text", device identifiers "including device ID, IMEI, OAID, MAC, browser type", and "some financial information" if you pay.

Photos and precise location may be used "to train our AI algorithm". Information may be shared with "third parties (including the Chat-GPT platform) that help us deliver effective functionality", and Google Play's data-safety section adds that the app "may share" your location with third parties. So treat chats as text on someone else's server: no real names, addresses, photos of yourself, or anything you would mind a stranger reading.

Who you are dealing with. The press release names Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC of Delaware as the developer, and that is the name on both app stores. The privacy policy says the service is "operated by Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited in Hong Kong", with an office address in Kwun Tong. Both may be true; a Delaware company with a Hong Kong operator is a common structure. What it means for you is that your data is handled under Hong Kong law, not Indian, EU or US law, and that support is an email address: support@mail.polybuzz.ai.

Lookalikes. As with any app this popular, copies exist. Apple's store carries a "PollyBuzz: AI Chat Characters" from a different developer, rated 4+, which reviewers on its own page describe as imitating the 18+ original. The real one is published by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC on both stores; the name on the listing matters more than the icon, as we found with the seven copies of IGsty.

Deleting your account is done from the app's Settings page, and the policy warns that "Deletion of your account is irreversible" and that copies "from the backup system" may take longer to go.

Is Poly AI down? Why is it not working?

From India, the website is blocked, and it is their server doing the blocking. On 23 October 2026 we opened polybuzz.ai from a home connection in Delhi three ways: in a headless browser, in a normal Chrome window, and by plain HTTP request. Every time, the page that arrived was the block itself. The HTML their server sends carries the normal title, then "403 Forbiden" (their spelling) and "This service is temporarily unavailable in your region."

The site's own account API still answered from India, and the legal pages hosted at app.polybuzz.ai loaded, so it is the web app that is withheld, by region, not a broken connection at your end. It is not withheld everywhere: in the United States polybuzz.ai is the top result for "poly ai" and draws about 2.5 million visits a month from search.

polybuzz.ai opened from India on October 23, 2026, showing only a dark page with 403 Forbiden and This service is temporarily unavailable in your region

What polybuzz.ai shows from India on October 23, 2026: the block is the page itself, sent by their server with a 200 status and the normal title.

The Android app was still on Google Play's Indian storefront the same day, with an Install button, and we did not install it, so we cannot say whether it connects from India once opened. If you had the app before and it stopped, the sequence to try is:

  1. Update it. The current version is 2.2.90, released on 19 October 2026. Old versions of an app that changed its name and servers in 2025 may simply be talking to addresses that no longer answer.

  2. Stop using old links. The company said in January 2025 that it "will no longer be operating a website at polyai.ai or similar domain names". Bookmarks to polyai.ai, and third-party pages that still link there, lead nowhere.

  3. Check whether it is the website or the app. The region block above affects polybuzz.ai in the browser. If the app fails too, that is a different problem.

  4. Look at the subreddit. r/polyai is where users report outages first; a thread there, "The Thing About Poly.Ai", ranks on Google's first page for the name. Reddit would not serve us the thread from a script, so we cannot quote it.

  5. Write to support. The address on the Play listing is support@mail.polybuzz.ai.

Can you turn off the censorship on Poly AI? Does it allow NSFW?

No. There is no setting that switches the content rules off, and the rules are in the Terms of Use rather than in a filter you control. The terms prohibit content that "depicts pornography or sexual acts (including intercourse, masturbation, and sexual nudity) or solicits sexual content or activity", along with content that promotes eating disorders and other listed categories. Guides that promise a way round this are asking you to break the agreement you accepted at sign-up, and the terms allow the company to end the account. If the app's limits are the problem, the honest answer is that it is not the app for what you want.

Does Poly AI allow NSFW? Not in public, by its own rules. The company's FAQ, which we could read only through a scraped copy because the page is withheld from India, answers "Does PolyBuzz have a NSFW filter?" with "PolyBuzz strictly prohibit public display of NSFW content", and adds that "All recommended content undergoes multi-layered AI screening and human moderation to ensure community safety." The terms go further and ban the content outright, as quoted above. The app does not advertise any mode that permits it.

What is Pure Mode? A per-account content setting. We could not read the company's own description of it, but the setting is real: the website's code names a "webPureMode" option, and the account record its API returned for our visit carried an "isPure" flag. Third-party reviews describe it as a filter that keeps explicit characters out of your recommendations; treat that as their description, not the company's, and check the setting in the app itself.

How much does Poly AI cost?

The app is free to install and to chat with, with ads. Paid tiers are sold as in-app purchases, and the terms say "a plan for the premium services will be automatically renewed unless it is cancelled on or before the last day of the subscription period", and that "users are not entitled to any refund for a completed purchase without due reason". The prices themselves are set in the app and the stores for your country; we could not see them from India because the website is blocked, so check the in-app purchase list on the store page before you buy, and cancel through Google Play or Apple, not inside the app, if you want to be sure it stops.

How this was checked

On 23 October 2026 we opened polybuzz.ai from Delhi three ways, in a headless Chromium browser, in a visible Chrome window with a normal browser identity, and by plain HTTP request, and recorded the network calls the page made. We read the Google Play listing on the Indian storefront in a browser, the Terms of Use at the address the Play listing gives, the privacy policy and the FAQ through copies kept by a policy tracker and a scraping service, the January 2025 press release on PRWeb, and poly.ai's homepage. The search figures come from Ahrefs' United States and Australian databases as pasted by the editor, with the country breakdown from the same screen.

We did not create an account or install the app, so nothing here describes the chats themselves. Reddit and Apple's App Store page could not be read by our script, as noted above. The method is the one we use for every app in this series, such as Remaker AI.

Frequently asked questions

What is Poly AI?

The former name of PolyBuzz, a free AI character-chat app for adults by Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC, renamed in January 2025. Searches for "poly ai" also reach PolyAI Ltd, an unrelated London company that builds voice agents for call centres.

Is Poly AI safe?

It is rated 18+, its terms bar minors, and it collects device identifiers, uploaded text and pictures, and location, some of which it says may be shared with third parties or used to train its models. For adults who share nothing personal, the main risks are ads and auto-renewing purchases. For children, it is the wrong app, by its own rules.

Is Poly AI down right now?

From India, the website is deliberately unavailable: its server sends a page that says "This service is temporarily unavailable in your region". That is a block, not an outage, and the site is open in the United States. For outages elsewhere, r/polyai is the fastest signal.

Does Poly AI allow NSFW?

Not in public. The FAQ says "PolyBuzz strictly prohibit public display of NSFW content", and the Terms of Use prohibit sexual content outright. There is no setting that permits it.

What is Pure Mode on Poly AI?

A per-account content setting that the app's code and API both carry. Third-party reviews describe it as a filter on explicit recommendations; the company's own description is on a page withheld from India, so check the setting inside the app.

Why is Poly AI not working?

Most often one of three things: the website is blocked where you are, you are on an old version from before the rename, or you are using a polyai.ai link the company shut down. Update the app from the store, and use polybuzz.ai only.

Is Poly AI the same as PolyBuzz?

Yes. Same app, same developer, same characters. The name changed on 25 January 2025.

How do you delete a Poly AI account?

From the Settings page inside the app, according to the privacy policy. Deletion is irreversible, and backup copies may persist for a time after.
